THE SERPENT'S PEN AND THE DRAGON'S PRAYER

The Serpent's Pen & The Dragon's Prayer

Faithful One, your time is come,

Your faith has been my hope,

The long wait is done.

Your faith, your strength, has become your crutch, your weakness,

Your limitation and your boundary -

Cast it off, spit it out - for it is neither hot nor cold!

Forget thought – you think too much – would you build a prison in your mind?

Escape the lies ‘belief’, ‘opinion’, ‘truth’ – they are but shadows.

What use is faith? Know! Know!

All can – and will – be known! Love! Love!

Love without boundaries and Love experienced as the circumference of everything.

Know! Know! Know, then, that Being is suspended in a solution,

And that the solution is Love.

Land’s End is in sight – hark!

The final beacon’s light expels the dark

And ends the night.

This is your gift to you,

My daughters and my sons,

That you should walk the final mile alone,

Yet not alone.

Forget the house that Jack built!

Marvel at my meadow’s mighty mysteries, below,

And the starry heavens above. This, your abode -

Where the mountain meets the valley and the tiny, giant raindrops refract the memories of giant, tiny stars.

Fill this space, make it your own,

You never left my house,

You were never left alone.

Shimmering across the shivering seas,

Their whispering shores and silver, shifting sands,

Moving quietly o’er the misty moors,

All o’er this green and pleasant orb,

See the signs, read the words upon the walls,

Listen to the wind and land –

Jerusalem is here today, today,

The Gates of Eden are open now,

To the meek and The Brave.

Dare! Dare to open your eyes,

See that which is before you,

Feel that which lies beneath your feet,

What is real, for you to feel?

And what is processed, priced and packaged,

Labelled ‘probably safe to eat’?

Seek not the truth without, for you will find only opinions,

Others’ empty, hollow forms, that you alone can fill with light,

The golden threads to gild your cage, you twist upon this spinner,

The twigs that line your nest,

Bind and weave the passing forms the way that serves thee best.

Fear not damnation, for no-one is damned,

Seek not salvation, for nought that IS can - or will - be lost -

None of your suffering could ever be in vain, I promise you this.

The Time! The time is come!

Mankind, The Devil’s reign is done!

You are the sons and daughters of Earth

To Paradise return’d.

You, The Sun of God,

The Light of The East,

For a millennia you have borne a cross,

To learn the lessons of Love’s Eden lost,

Lover, leave your cross at the gate - rest, rest!

Allow the soft, wet grass to heal

Your bleeding hands and sacred heart,

You never left my house,

We were ne’er, in truth, apart.

What was sinful now is sacred,

There is no shame in standing naked,

Yes, you are The Beast – The Beast is blessed –

There is no soul distinct from flesh – the lies reversed –

All things, a spectrum – man, no different in this respect –

Yet – Man, Mankind, all human children – my child,

In and through you I AM here,

I reside in your breast,

And I am the love that loves to love

To love you, alone, the best.

For thine is The Kingdom,

The Flower of Mary,

Forever and ever,

Amen.

  2. Thanks. I love the contemplative, purity of short poems - check the entry 'Songs of Heaven and Hell' for some of mine. I am starting with the theme of Oneness, then - like a prism - I am seperating the Many facets of the One, leading to increasingly complex and elaborate pieces. In the end, if all my pieces are the riddle, then the trick is that the solution is at the beginning - in the purist, simplest poems. And short pieces not so good for reading out loud, they kinda disappear too quickly. x
